"The Jewel of New Zealand" - the Tuatara

In Biology lab, we got to see a live Tuatara demonstration. These lizard-like creatures are "living fossils" which come from a very old lineage of reptiles. They are unique in that they have retained their doubly- holed skulls for muscle attachment, this trait making them "diapsids".
